Model 1873 Springfield Bayonet (Indian Wars era)

This is an original Model 1873 Springfield “Trapdoor” socket bayonet and scabbard with frog. It is a military bayonet from the Indian Wars period. The bayonet has the “US” stamp on the base and has the original lock ring and screw. The inside diameter of the socket is ¾” and perfectly fits a penny through it. The scabbard is in excellent condition with some crazing on the leather frog. The bayonet is in mint condition, retains all its blue, and looks like it has not been out of the scabbard since the 1800s.
