Civil War Pistol Cartridge Box

An original Civil War soldier’s pistol cartridge box. Outer flap has the maker’s mark “J. Davy & Co. Newark, NJ.” And the lower corner has the inspector’s cartouche (stamp) “T.J. Shepard.” There is a third inspector mark on the left side. Both leather belt loops present. Original closure tab and brass finial are complete. Great condition, and leather very pliable. Very likely belonged to a Union cavalryman. A great piece of American military history from Abraham Lincon's army.
