Wiki Value Safety
WikiValue is deigned to be a safe place to exchange information. By default, nobody knows who or where anybody else may be. Users can open themselves up to others for direct communication if they choose by providing e-mail addresses, phone numbers, etc. in Private Messages, Comments or Item Listings.
WikiValue, the Internet in general and indeed the entire world is mostly a pretty safe place. But there are scammers everywhere and there are a few basic rules to help keeping yourself safer:
- DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY FINANCIAL INFORMATION. Do not share credit/debit card numbers, bank/checking account info, social security numbers, Paypal or similar money transfer service information.
- NEVER, EVER WIRE MONEY TO A STRANGER. Western Union may be a great way to send money to folks back home but there is no way to protect yourself from fraud. DO NOT deal with anybody who insists on wire transfer of funds, no matter how convincing the story. It is always a scam.
- MONEY ORDERS AND CASHIER CHECKS CAN BE FAKED. It may take a bank several weeks to determine they are bad and you will be the first one held responsible.
- WIKIVALUE IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TRANSACTIONS. Anybody who tells you that WikiValue guarantees, certifies or protects any deal is trying to scam you. WikiValue has no escrow service and does not handle payments.
Whenever possible it is best to deal locally with people you can meet face to face. Be wary of any deal that sounds too good to be true. Notify your local police department if anybody attempts to defraud you.
